So you’re hungry?  bored of the typical asian food? and you live near Doncaster?

Say no more. I has the solutionz!

Some of you locals might know of the place but it’s rather tucked away in the allyways of Jackson Court in Doncaster.

If anything for a small place located in the suburbs, it looks the part for a nice exciting restaurant (bar the trolly but that’s besides the point.)

Enter Asian Gourment Hut, a unique asian restaurant set apart by its dining concept.  Now I feel i have to say this before hand, by no means is the food OMFGWTFBBQ fuLLY awsome. It’s not bad and some might even love it depending on your taste buds, I know my sister does >.>”

Anyway what I found interesting and kudos to them for coming up with the concept, is the way food is served and priced.

Traditionally you would rock up pay $8-$10 bucks for a XXX on rice, instead rice bowls are priced between $3-$5 (OMG CHEAP?!). Obviously there’s a catch, the dish sizes are tinyyyy and there’s no way You the hungry geek that you are is going to be satisfied. Solution? Set menu. for about 10 bucks, you get 3 dishes – Entree, Main, Dessert/Soup. You get to mix and match the content and alter them to your liking.

Several hot tips though: Try the desserts. Soups are healthy Chinese medicine types but you do generally get a complementary soup. Spring roll…. need i say more? oh and avoid the noodles. just do it.

Regardless, it’s a pretty interesting place if you’re bored with the “normal” asian style. 4 stars.
